About us
Akmar Basenji's was established in 1996. I chose Akmar as my Affix (Kennel name) as it means Brilliant of Whiteness and anyone called Akmar is energetic, courageous and determined…this seemed to suit a Basenji rather well I thought!

Philae Akmar's first Basenji proved to be far better than our expectations and gained a Best of Breed at Crufts in 1998 and her champion title a little later. Philae was Top Brood Bitch 2003, 2004 & 2005. From Philae's only litter she produced the now famous 'Akmar boys' who between them gained two champion titles included UK Top Basenji and over 41 CC's.
We then decided to get a friend for Philae, so Cairo joined our group. The girls were half sisters and Cairo proved to be the best show dog I have ever had. A dream to show and she gained her champion title in two years. Cairo also was the UK Top Basenji 1999.
After thinking long and hard we decided to add a third Basenji to our group. We thought it would be interesting to bring in some new bloodlines to the mix. Tari joined us in 2005. Tari is 50% Swedish, 25% Finish and 25% English. Showing was not for Tari, but through limited showing opportunities gained 3 Reserve Challenge Certificates including Reserve Best Female at Crufts 2006.
In December 2009 Saba, FCI INT, LUX, CH, BEL, NL & GB Ch. Akmar Queen Ankhesenamun (World Winner 11, Golden Winner 12, Brussels Winner 12 & European Winner 13) our home bred Basenji joined our group. Saba is a natural "super model" and likes nothing more than competing at the special events across Europe, please see Saba's page for details of her amazing career!
2013 proved to be a a very exciting year as BISS Ch Chagmas Dream On (Imp Nor) (Jensen Button) joined our show team through kind co-operation with Jensen's co-owner Richard Williams and Breeder Gro Udby from Norway. Jensen finished 2013 as Top Male Basenji puppy and second top puppy overall by only one point and 2014 was his year finishing UK #1 Basenji with Group 2 @ LKA.
2014 was a super year for our new girl Faraoland On A Bed Of Roses: Rosa - Co-owned with Alain Alaerts (Belgium). Please see her details on Our Basenjis page.
2015 and our next generation arrived on 17th December and I am pleased to say we have a new girl Empress Neema joining our family.

December 2019 Empress Neema blessed us with triplets and the one and only female stayed at Akmar Basenjis. This is TanaBear. Due to the Covid situation TanaBear has not been able to hit the show ring but we hope she will be able to provide us with the next generation in the near future.
Akmar do not breed often and only when we are ready for a new addition, although we are sometimes able to make a referrals to another careful breeders globally.

We do not sell to show or breeding homes, we look for loving family homes only for our special puppies.
I compliment my showing with judging to the breed standard, and as member of the Basenji Owners & Breeders Association (BOBA), and Svenska Basenji Sallskapet (Swedish Basenji club).
